Compression and Print Quality
Compress photos for storage and sharing without ruining prints. Here’s how to stay safe.
Rules of Thumb
- Keep a lossless copy of favorites and professional shoots.
- For small/medium prints (≤ 8×10), balanced HEIC is typically indistinguishable.
- For large prints, prefer gentler compression or lossless.
Checklist Before Printing
- Export at native resolution when possible.
- Use high-quality or lossless for large formats.
- Soft-proof colors for the lab/printer profile if available.
- Inspect edges and gradients at 100% zoom.
